What is 1-2-1 ?
Many bicycle owners now carry out the majority of servicing themselves. Whilst a lot of the work can be done at home, there are still a plethora of components and tools to get your head around, which is where 1-2-1 workshops comes in.
In order to make maintenance and servicing accessible to everyone at an affordable price, the workshop now offers two levels of 'assisted service' where you will learn how to undertake the varying levels of work required to keep your bike running as it should.
What are the benefits?
We all dread going out on a long ride to find ourselves stuck in the countryside with a broken chain, scratching our head with an oily hand whilst trying to work out how to get home again! And why should you have to load your bike in the car and take it to the shop every time you have a puncture?
Taking part in a 1-2-1 workshop will arm you with an abundance of skills and tips whilst at the same time going home with a serviced bike. It is recommended you have your bike serviced by a qualified mechanic at least twice a year, but in learning how to keep on top of things you will be able to prolong the window between visiting the bike shop, which will mean saving the pennies to spend on that piece of mid-ride cake.
What will it cover?
There are two levels of 1-2-1 workshop classes and depending on which you do, you will go through everything covered under the applicable service as detailed here. One will cover the basics, whilst the other will involve taking your bike down to the frame, and going through everything. Alternatively perhaps you'd like to upgrade your group-set or re-map your Di2? Classes can be tailored to suit.
How long does it take?
As long as it takes until you are confident that what you would like to learn has been covered! Both services can be done in a few hours either in the morning or afternoon at your pace. The atmosphere is relaxed and there is no pressure to race to get the job done.
How much does it cost?
Either £60 for the basic service or £120 for the full service. Any parts required will be added to the final cost, which at the very least will mean £10 for a set of replacement cables for a full service. This will be discussed beforehand. You get to participate in the work and you get to see exactly how each component is serviced whilst getting stuck in. Interested? Get in touch via the contact form here.
